Viognier

The Grape

Viognier is a white wine grape best known for producing aromatic and textural wines. This grape is often difficult to cultivate and vinify because the grapes are small and once it ripens, it must be harvested immediately since the acidity can drop quickly. But, when well looked after it can produce exotic and appealing wines. Viognier grapes are most famously planted in Condrieu, Grillet and Rhone areas in France but can also be found in Italy.

The Wines

With a golden colour, the Viognier grape yields a stylish white wine that is smooth and full-bodied. Its subtle bouquet includes mango, peach and apricot mixed with floral notes of violet, making it an easy-drinking wine. Viognier can be as full-bodied as an oaky Chardonnay, but has much more distinctive fruity flavours.

The Occasions

A glass or two of Viognier is perfect for ringing in the New Year. Any time you are playing host, your guests will be very impressed when a Viognier is served at the dinner table. Very food friendly, Viognier is perfect to pair with most fish including shellfish and branzino.
